Vacuum regularly to prevent dust and crumbs from settling into the roots of the fibre.
It's very common for new rugs to shed for the first six months or so. Some people use a special brush to groom it, but simple, regular vacuuming will keep it under control.

Remove spills immediately: if liquid, blot with clean, undyed absorbent cloth by pressing firmly around the spill to absorb as much as possible. You can use a fan or a hair dryer on a low heat to dry the area.
For hard to remove stains, professional rug cleaning is recommended.
